The Cross

What is the cross? What is it to we Christians?

You can find cross accessories and clothing in just about any form you can imagine. Ball-caps, tee shirts, jewelry, even some sunglasses and such. The cross is a strong symbol for Christianity. It not only displays our Christian faith, but it also shows the love that God had for us, unworthy, humans. The love to send His son, Jesus, to shed His holy blood for us. But, I'm going to show you the cross in a different light --

The cross was used for public executions from the 6th century BC to the 4th century AD (there were other times when it was used, but that is when it was used most). It was used to execute criminals publicly, slowly, and painfully. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, was killed in such a manor, after He had been beaten and whipped. But let's look aside from that fact, momentarily.

The purpose for the cross was to end human life. To execute a living being. When the end purpose is examined, the cross was used in the same light as a guillotine, or even a noose; a tool used to execute people. To make an example.

Today we see people walking around wearing cross necklaces, as if it were a pleasant thing to think on. To someone who knows about the cross itself, but not about Jesus, we would seem a sick people, wouldn't we? It would be no different than walking around with a guillotine pendant around our necks. Or wearing a necklace resembling a hangman's noose.

I'm going to go ahead and clarify my upcoming point: I am NOT against wearing a cross necklace, or any other related apparel.

When we look at a picture of a cross, or see someone else wearing a cross pendant, we shouldn't think "That's a beautiful cross!". We should be reminded that we are bought at a price. That Christ came down and died a death far beyond anything we could imagine. Not just in the aspect of physical pain, but in the spiritual sense as well. He died a horrible, long, anguishing death; and while He was suffering, He could not feel God's presence (Mat. 27:46 & Mar. 15:34).

We (Christians and non-Christians) have really forgotten what the cross truly means. It's not just a reminder of how much Christ suffered for us; it's also a reminder of how much He loves us. ALL of US. He knew what awaited Him. He prayed in the garden of Gethsemane, asking God if there was any other way. And He told His purpose to the disciples, even though they didn't comprehend His words. He KNEW what He would SUFFER. Yet, He still went through with it. Even in the garden when He was asking God for another means, He said "nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt." (Mar. 14:36) He was God in the flesh! He could have summoned angels to His rescue at any time. He knew what was coming, and He knew that He could have stopped it, at any time. But He didn't.

THAT, is what the cross truly is. A reminder of our value, in the eyes of God.

So when you see a cross, don't just glance and then look away. Don't take that symbol for granted. Think about what it really means. Think about what Christ did for us. Think about His suffering. But, close on the thought of the immeasurable love that He has for EVERY ONE OF US.

We, ALL of us, are bought at a price.

Reversing the Edge

The reason of this blog, is to share the Scriptural truths and realizations that I have (and still am) come to. Now, you will hear this a lot in the future, DO NOT take what I say as absolute truth. Look to the the Bible for that; all I'm sharing here is what I have come to find. And even if I'm right, there will always be more to any area, than I will EVER comprehend. We could read through the Bible a thousand times in our life, and we still wouldn't get it all. So, my point is, don't say, "This is true because Reversed Edge said it was." Only say it's true, if you do the footwork to follow me up, and you feel God speaking to you, telling you that it is the truth: read your Bible, pray and ask God for wisdom and discernment, and ask God to show you what is true.

I'm calling this blog "Reversing the Edge," because I hope to help those of us who don't know how to use our swords, to become skilled warriors. What do I mean? God gave us a sword; He gave us the Bible. His word -- the only true and pure thing in our mortal existence; and the only means to resisting the evil in this world Now, most people in today's world that claim to be Christians, are unfortunately not very well trained in the areas that should be mandatory for "little-Christs."

EXAMPLE: Julie is a Christian, but she doesn't read her Bible often. She's just a "Sunday morning Christian" so to speak. One day, Julie tells Madison that she is a Christian. She even goes so far as to tell Madison a verse she heard in church the previous weekend. The verse was about fleeing lust. A week later, however, Madison sees Julie clearly trying to get a guy's attention, via his eyes. When Madison asked Julie about it later, in relation to the verse she had spoken before, Julie quickly makes an excuse, or changes the meaning in her own way. Madison, being Biblically uneducated, accepts this. So, Julie used her sword (her Bible) to try to give a good impression of Christ to Madison. But, in the end, she ended up cutting herself with her own sword. She damaged the image of the body of Christ. Why did this happen? Because she tried to fight an enemy, when she had never even picked up her sword, prior to that event.

Now, I'm not saying, "Don't try to help people if you're not a Bible scholar." I'm simply saying that we shouldn't be unequipped; at ANY given time. So, this blog gets the title from its purpose -- to help my fellow brethren in Christ, in any way I can. And, with God's help, we can learn to stop accidentally cutting ourselves, and to face out blades towards our one true enemy -- Lucifer; Satan; The King of Lies; etc.

On that note, any and everything I post here is going to be direct. I WILL NOT sugar-coat the truth here. If I share something from my studies, I will NOT water it down. If I see something in the world that I think should be called out, I WILL explicitly speak against it, WITH Biblical facts.

I'm not a seminary graduate; and I'm not some guy who sits in his room all day, everyday, reading his Bible. BUT, I am one who is seeking knowledge and wisdom, through God, as though they were hid treasures.

As for my future entries, I can't guaranty any sort of schedule or time frame. My life is pretty hectic right now, and time is precious. So if I post 3 entries in one week, and then nothing for the next two, don't be surprised. I will continue to post as often as possible.

I thank you all for looking into this blog, and I hope that you will continue to check back.
